Luxury Car Models vs. Conventional Car Models

Luxury-Vehicle

As a vehicle locksmith service provider, A+ likes to emphasize that although our expertise is focused on luxury vehicles, we can service any make and model. This makes people wonder what the difference is between a luxury vehicle and a non-luxury vehicle.

When comparing a luxury car with a non-luxury car, we need to consider what “luxurious” means in the first place. The general definition of “luxury” is the state of great comfort and extravagant living. Another definition states it as a condition of abundance or great ease and comfort. If we apply these two very similar definitions to a luxury vehicle, we can understand it as being a vehicle that provides comfort that surpasses the norm.

This is not to say that conventional cars do not provide comfort; they very much so do. In fact, U.S. News reports that some of the most comfortable cars are made by brands that are considered conventional, not luxury. Still, this poses the question of what the key differences are between luxury and non-luxury vehicles. Obviously, comfort plays a huge role. But when we say comfort, it goes beyond car seats and the amount of available vehicle space.

When it comes to the comfort of luxury vehicles, how the car rides, what features are included (including overall the feel and look of the vehicle), and the name of the vehicle will be taken into consideration. We will break down these three aspects of a luxury vehicle that give it the reputation of being luxurious in comparison to conventional car models.

Does the car drive smoothly or is it bumpy, and does the wheel steer with ease?

Though how the car drives and steers are behaviors that could be managed and improved upon with regularly scheduled maintenance and safe driving habits, there is no denying that when it comes to what gives a car a smooth ride, the wheelbase (the distance between the front and rear wheels) plays one of the biggest roles.

Wheelbase goes hand-in-hand with the structure of the car. And most luxury vehicles have a specific eye for detail when it comes to the structure/body of the car.

There are features. Then there are features.

According to Wikipedia, luxury cars are characterized by having “traditionally emphasized higher levels of comfort and safety, with manufacturers often introducing new safety technologies and comfort amenities on luxury models.” In this same regard, these increased levels of comfort, equipment, amenities, quality, performance, and status relative to regular cars prompt an increased price and, as a result, the title of being luxurious.

Consider some of the top extravagant luxury car features in the last year. In reality, would we expect to find a honda equipped with silver-plated champagne flutes? Probably not. Whether that is a result of causation or correlation due to the expectation linked to luxury vehicles, or the lack-of linked to non-luxury vehicles…that is something we might not ever know. Nonetheless, the next and final point that differentiates luxury cars from the standard car drives home the psychological aspect behind luxury purchases, including cars.

What’s in a name? Apparently, a lot. Like several tens of thousands of dollars more

Getting into a bit of name psychology, Professor Richard Wiseman says: “This is one of those self-fulfilling prophecies: if you have a name which sounds intelligent or attractive, then you could be treated differently, or behave in a different way.” Precisely why certain names are seen as more attractive is still unknown but, one thing is for sure, names have a huge impact on people, especially when it comes to consumer spending habits.

If there are two vehicles present — one honda and one Infiniti — and they look relatively similar from all angles, but the main difference is the logo (that “brand” name), many people who have the means to do so would spend a bit more extra cash on the higher-branded vehicle. Might as well drive around in a car that will turn heads, right.

The bottom line: Though such differences might be more subtle these days as technology advances and standard vehicles are becoming more equipped with luxurious features, the fact of the matter is that most luxury car brands have developed a reputation for providing consumers with unique features and models and high-quality parts that are not always easy to obtain giving them an additional superiority. Luxury brands might be playing with our psyche, but we can not deny that whatever they are doing is evidently working.
